What is B Corp?

In 2006, the non-profit network B Lab™ had a vision for a different kind of economy, one that would benefit all people, communities, and the planet. They believed that businesses could lead the way towards this stakeholder-led economy and developed a label to reward companies that do so. The B Corp™ movement was born.

B Corps, or Benefit Corporations®, are companies that aim to have a positive impact on society. They do so by upholding sustainable practices across their entire organisation. They strive to use business as a force for good and help build an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet.

Why is it important?

To become a B Corp, companies have to pass a rigorous assessment that does not only evaluate the products or services, but also the business as a whole. Moreover, B Corp is the only certification out there where the social purpose of a company is ingrained in its DNA.

Companies that want to be eligible to become a certified B Corp have to imbed a mission lock clause in their governing documents. In doing so, they establish and protect a triple bottom approach, i.e., pursuing positive social and environmental impact in addition to financial objectives.

Why did Sustenuto certify?

Our mission and values are completely aligned with the B Corp vision and ambition. Everything we do starts from our core belief that companies can be the key levers for positive change in society.

In addition, our service offering includes B Corps certification guidance and training. We have helped clients such as Spadel and Alpro become B Corp certified. So naturally, it made sense for us to become a certified B Corp ourselves.

In March 2022, we officially became a Certified B Corp. Find out more about our certification via the B Corporation website

What’s next?

The B Corp certification is an acknowledgment of our choices and actions and a great step forward in our own ongoing sustainability journey. But we know we can do better. In the next three years as a B Corp, we will continue to develop our actions to further improve sustainability.
