As a large – yet vital – energy user, the chemical industry must work on transitioning to a low-carbon circular economy. Furthermore, the European REACH regulation has pushed awareness for material health in chemical compounds. On top of that, plastic waste continues to fill our oceans and landfills, creating collateral, long-term environmental impacts.

While the chemical industry as whole faces very diverse sustainability challenges, it has the potential to go beyond taking up its responsibility for sustainable risks. It can also be a major contributor to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
